Historical Security Council

The Security Council is one of the most important UN committees, if not the most important. The Security Council is a collective security body that consists of 15 members, 5 of which are permanent members possessing a veto. The other 10 members are elected semiannually by the General Assembly. Often rotating members are elected to represent a region or because they have shown success in problem solving in the UN. The issues discussed in Security Council are issues that no other committee could solve because they are serious and often world threatening. Security Council has the special resources to better solve these issues because it commands international respect, money and troops. At Model UN, Security Council provides a smaller debate space for delegates who want to hone their skills and discuss important global issues. Historical Security Council is special to Model UN because it allows delegates to reevaluate major global crises. Sometimes, these issues look clear in hindsight, but the challenge is to truly take on the thoughts, feelings and opinions of the time.
